Cookie & Storage Policy

The one sign-in cookie and the local storage CrowdTune uses, and its one optional choice: playback and error reports. Last updated 10 October 2026.

The short version

CrowdTune sets one cookie, and it exists purely to keep you signed in. Most of what it stores is not a cookie at all but local storage. Two local storage values do reach the server: the access token goes with every request you make while signed in or joined to an event as a guest, and the client id goes with a guest join, with your cookie choice, and with the check of that choice on later visits. The table below says what each one is for.

Nothing that is not strictly necessary loads until you have agreed to it. There is no analytics, and CrowdTune shows no advertising of its own. YouTube can play its own ads inside the player, which CrowdTune does not control.

Strictly necessary: no consent required

These are needed for the service to work at all. Under the ePrivacy rules they do not require consent, but you are entitled to know about them, so here they are in full.

NameTypeWhat it is forHow long
crowdtune_refresh_tokenCookie (httpOnly, Secure, SameSite=Strict, scoped to /api/auth)Keeps you signed in without re-entering your password. Your browser will not expose it to scripts, which is what makes it the safe place for it24 hours
crowdtune:access_tokenLocal storageAuthenticates each request you make while signed in or joined to an event as a guestUntil you sign out
crowdtune:themeLocal storageRemembers whether you chose light or darkUntil you clear it
crowdtune:voted:<event>Local storageRemembers which songs you have voted for at an event, so the button can offer to undo a voteUntil you clear it
crowdtune:consentLocal storageRemembers the choice you made in the cookie banner, so you are not asked againUntil you change it, or the policy changes materially
crowdtune:consent_revalidatedSession storageRecords that this tab has already checked your saved cookie choice against the server, so the check runs once per visitUntil you close the tab
crowdtune:chunk-reloadSession storageRecords when this tab last reloaded itself to fetch the current version of the site after an update, so a page that still fails to load is not reloaded over and overUntil you close the tab
crowdtune:client_idLocal storageA random identifier with no meaning outside CrowdTune. It is created only when you make a cookie choice or join an event as a guest, and it is not sent anywhere before then. It is used for two things. It goes with your cookie choice, and the server stores it unchanged in the record proving what was agreed. Later visits send it again to check that choice. And when you join an event as a guest without a pass, it keeps you the same guest at that event, so rejoining or changing your name does not give you a new identity or a second vote. For that, the server combines it with the event and keeps only a one-way hash of the two, so your guest identities at different events cannot be linked to each other. If your browser blocks local storage, the id lives in the open page instead and is gone when you reload or close it. It is deliberately local storage rather than a cookie: setting a cookie in order to remember that you refused cookies would be absurdUntil you clear it

Only with your consent

The cookie banner has one choice, “Playback and error reports”, which is the functional category below.

NameSet byWhat it is forCategory
YouTube player storageyoutube-nocookie.com and www.youtube.comPlays the winning song on an event display. CrowdTune uses YouTube’s privacy-enhanced player host, which defers identifying cookies, but loading the player still contacts Google, which sees the device’s IP addressFunctional
Sentry error reportso4511962560987136.ingest.de.sentry.ioSends an error report (the error message, the page and the browser type) when the site breaks, so the fault can be found and fixed. It stores nothing in your browser and records no session. Reports are stored in the European UnionFunctional

Changing your mind

Use the “Cookie settings” link in the footer of any page. It reopens the same choice you were given the first time, and withdrawing is exactly as easy as agreeing.

You can also clear everything above from your browser’s own settings. If you do, you will be signed out and asked about cookies again.
